Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day for sure! When I have a little extra time and am not having one of my favorite oatmeal recipes, I like to make not just a smoothie, but a smoothie bowl. I think that the combination of eating it with a spoon and having toppings really ups the game and makes you feel as if you are indulging for breakfast. Of course, arranging the toppings nicely is not necessary, but it makes for a good instagram opportunity, which is always fun.
- 1-2 frozen bananas
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- handful of spinach
- 2 tbsp cocoa/cacao powder
- 1 tbsp peanut/almond butter
- unsweetened almond milk
- unsweetened shredded coconut
It’s important that you use frozen fruit, because that’s the key to making it creamy. You can’t taste the spinach at all, so why not add it for the extra health benefits. Also, I usually just add enough almond milk for it to blend properly. I usually switch up the toppings too, depending on whatever I have on hand.
Put all base ingredients in your blender and blend, it’s as simple as that! You’ll end up with a creamy, rich smoothie that tastes as if you are eating chocolate ice cream. It might not be the prettiest color, but it tastes good so that’s all that matters, right?
As for the topping arrangement, you can just throw them all together, but of course, I enjoy arranging them neatly for the aesthetics!
