Easy DIY Flower Decor

So if you didn’t already know, I’m pretty much obsessed with all things floral, whether it’s clothing, patterns, or, of course, your classic fresh flowers. But lately, I’ve been really loving faux flowers. They’re just so great, because they last way longer than fresh (actually pretty much forever) and have so many uses, i.e. including in instagram pictures for the aesthetics.

I thought why not take it a step further and feed my floral obsession with a DIY made of faux flowers. It’s super easy and quick, and, better yet, really inexpensive. It cost me around $5 to make altogether and around 10 minutes, and I ended up with a pretty cute room decor piece.

What you’ll need:

  • fake flowers (I got bouquets from the dollar store for $1 a piece)
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • tape

First, separate each flower from the bouquet by cutting with scissors. I found that mine actually came apart easily just by twisting the stem until the wire inside of it eventually broke. Also, I chose to take the leaves off of the stems for a more dainty/delicate look in the end.

Next, lay out the flowers to visualize how you want them to look in a line. This is where you can get more creative by choosing if you want the stems to be different lengths or if you want to arrange the flowers in a specific pattern. Or you can simply just wing it, and it stills ends up looking cute and whimsical.

Now comes the trickiest part- glue the bottom of a stem to the top of the flower below it by pressing the inside petals around the stem. It’s kind of easy to burn yourself with the hot glue, because it goes right through the flower petal, so try to be a little more cautious.

Lastly, to hang up on the wall, I went the easy route and chose to use tape, because the flowers are light enough to stay put with it and the flower petals hide the appearance of the tape. But, if you want to get a little more fancy and professional you can definitely use fishing wire or something like that to hang it up.

And now your masterpiece is complete! It makes a great piece for above a headboard or it can even take the place of a headboard. It also makes a pretty adorable backdrop for pictures, which is always useful for instagram. I’d love to hear your thoughts or if you plan on recreating it, let me know in the comments!
