Self Care. I’m sure you’ve all heard of this as it’s being talked about and practiced more and more recently. For good reason, too. Everyone gets stressed to an extent. It’s just unavoidable. And so many people struggle with anxiety to different extents, myself included (especially at this time of year with finals approaching, am I right?) So really any opportunity to simply take time for yourself and put your mental health first, no matter how big or small, is well worth it.
That’s why I’m super excited to be partnering with Desert Essence for this post to hopefully show that self-care isn’t selfish. Of course, a big part of the holiday months is about giving back to others and being selfless as a result, but don’t feel bad for giving back to yourself as well, because sometimes that’s just needed.
I’m pretty new to the whole self-care thing to be honest, but I’ve been trying to make an effort to incorporate it into my days more and more. Obviously, I’m no expert, but with the help of several resources (i.e., lovely friends I’ve met through blogging, good ole’ pinterest, & just plain google), these are some ideas on my self-care to-do list:
Hair, skin, nails, everything. Why not go all out?

Use Essential Oils.
I’m just now getting into the essential oil game and I really wish I would have sooner, because it definitely lives up to all the hype. I’m really excited to bring some more relaxed and calm vibes into my life, because you can never have too much of that haha. This oil from Desert Essence has been a go-to lately, because you just sprinkle a few drops on your pillow before bed and it instantly soothes and relaxes you.

Do a DIY project.
I love love love doing these. The process actually relaxes me and just gets your mind off other things, because you’re focusing on getting the project done. I know that might not be the case for everyone, but it can’t hurt to try. You just feel really accomplished and proud after completing them, plus, you save money, which can obviously help in the area of not being stressed, so a double-win. Make breakfast in bed.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day for sure. I kind of have a problem with eating it for every meal of the day–however, that might not be a bad thing haha. So taking the time to get comfy & cozy in bed and eat the best meal of the day in bed is always fun and relaxing, so go ahead and treat yourself. Ok, so this one can go both ways. On one hand, it feels really good to dress comfortable all day–think leggings, baggy sweatshirt, & sneakers. But on the other hand, dressing up can also be a good thing. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to the idea that ‘when you look you’re best, you feel you’re best’ aka you have more confidence. So overall, I guess you could say it’s all about balance–a dressed down day here and dressed up day there.
One of my favorite things to do is go to the health-food aisles of the grocery store and look for something new to try–snacks, kombucha, chocolate. It’s the health aisle, so it has to be healthy, right? And it doesn’t have to be just food–treat yourself to a new candle or entire new outfit 🙂
Buy Yourself Flowers. or a new plant or a succulent, whatever your heart desires, because you deserve it. And it will bring some more life and positive vibes to your room! Even if you get some fake ones like these, it still gets the point across haha
